Exclusive Ibaraki & Tokyo FAM Trip 2027 | Japan Beyond the Usual

Hosted by Tweet World Travel in Partnership with the Ibaraki Prefectural Government

Japan remains one of the most popular international destinations for Australian travellers. While Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka continue to attract first-time visitors, more travellers are now looking for something different — authentic local experiences, hidden gems and destinations beyond Japan’s traditional tourist trail.

To help Australian travel professionals discover a new side of Japan, Tweet World Travel, in partnership with the Ibaraki Prefectural Government, is proud to host an exclusive Japan FAM Trip from 2–8 March 2027.

This carefully curated 7-day / 6-night familiarisation trip is designed exclusively for selected travel industry partners, with only eight places available.

Participants will spend four nights discovering Ibaraki Prefecture, followed by two nights in Tokyo, experiencing the destination first-hand and gaining the knowledge and confidence to recommend Japan to their clients.

Ibaraki

Discover Ibaraki: A Hidden Gem Near Tokyo

Located just northeast of Tokyo, Ibaraki Prefecture offers a very different experience from Japan’s better-known tourism centres.

The region combines beautiful natural scenery, fascinating culture, seasonal landscapes, authentic local experiences and regional cuisine all within convenient reach of Tokyo.

For Australian travellers who have already experienced Japan’s famous Golden Route, Ibaraki provides an opportunity to discover somewhere new.

For first-time visitors, it can also be incorporated into a Tokyo itinerary to create a holiday that combines the excitement of the capital with a more authentic regional Japanese experience.

During the FAM, travel professionals will have the opportunity to explore carefully selected iconic sights and hidden gems, experience local culture and discover products that could be incorporated into future client itineraries.

Why Ibaraki Is an Opportunity for Travel Agents

As the Australian market for Japan continues to grow, clients are increasingly looking for itineraries that offer something beyond Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

This creates an opportunity for travel advisors to introduce clients to destinations they may not have previously considered.

Ibaraki can be particularly appealing for:

  • Repeat visitors looking to discover a different side of Japan
  • Travellers interested in authentic Japanese culture and local experiences
  • Clients wanting to escape some of Japan’s busiest tourism centres
  • Travellers looking for hidden gems within easy reach of Tokyo
  • Clients who want a combination of city, culture, nature and regional Japan

Experiencing Ibaraki personally will help participating agents understand who the destination is best suited to and how it can be incorporated into a broader Japan itinerary.

More Than Sightseeing

This journey is not designed to be simply another holiday.

It is an opportunity to experience, learn, connect and build valuable destination knowledge.

Along the way, participants can expect carefully curated experiences, authentic local encounters, quality accommodation, destination education and opportunities to network with fellow travel industry professionals.

It is also an opportunity to build stronger relationships between the Australian travel industry, Tweet World Travel and Ibaraki tourism partners.

Experience the Destination Before You Sell It

At Tweet World Travel, we believe one of the most powerful ways to sell a destination is to experience it personally.

A FAM trip provides travel professionals with something that cannot be gained from a brochure alone.

It allows you to walk through the destination, experience the accommodation, discover the attractions, understand travelling times, meet local people and gain a genuine feeling for what your clients will experience.

This FAM has therefore been created around a simple philosophy:

Discover. Experience. Sell with Confidence.

Participants will return with greater first-hand product knowledge and a better understanding of how to recommend Ibaraki and Japan to different types of travellers.

This exclusive FAM Trip is hosted by Tweet World Travel in partnership with the Ibaraki Prefectural Government, bringing together Tweet World Travel’s tourism expertise and Ibaraki’s local destination knowledge.

Through this partnership, we aim to introduce Australian travel professionals to a lesser-known region of Japan and showcase the diversity of experiences available beyond the traditional tourist routes.

The program will also provide an opportunity for participating agents to better understand Ibaraki as a destination and explore how it can be packaged and promoted to Australian travellers.

Escorted by Senior Leaders of Tweet World Travel Group

This exclusive Japan educational journey will be personally escorted by an experienced team from Tweet World Travel Group, giving participating travel partners the opportunity to travel, learn and connect directly with our senior team throughout the FAM.

The journey will be escorted by:

  • Susan Frisby-Smith – Executive Director, Business Development, Tweet World Travel Group
  • Kev Pasco – Product Manager, Tweet World Travel Group
  • Lilian Nguyen – Tour Leader, Tweet World Travel, based in Japan

Together, the team brings extensive experience across business development, product development, destination knowledge and on-the-ground Japan operations.

Having our team personally escort the FAM means participants will gain more than destination knowledge. Throughout the journey, there will be opportunities to discuss Japan product development, itinerary ideas, emerging travel trends, client expectations and how to confidently position Ibaraki within the Australian travel market.

With Lilian Nguyen based in Japan, participants will also benefit from valuable local knowledge and insights into travelling throughout Japan.

Combined with the expertise and support of the Ibaraki Prefectural Government, this FAM has been designed to provide travel professionals with both a genuine destination experience and practical knowledge they can take back to their businesses.

More Than a FAM – An Industry Learning Experience

With only eight travel industry places available, the small-group format creates an opportunity for participants to build meaningful relationships with the Tweet World Travel team, fellow travel professionals and local tourism partners.

It is an opportunity to experience Ibaraki first-hand, exchange ideas, develop new Japan products and return home with the knowledge and confidence to sell Japan beyond the traditional tourist trail.

Discover. Experience. Connect. Sell Japan with Confidence.

Only 8 Exclusive Places Available

To keep the experience personal and provide participants with meaningful access to the destination, the FAM is limited to just eight selected travel industry partners.

This intimate group size allows participants to experience the journey in much the same way as the carefully curated small-group and tailor-made holidays they may later recommend to their own clients.
