Best Places to Visit in Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls
One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls is Zimbabwe’s crown jewel. Locally known as Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning "The Smoke That Thunders," the falls create a massive mist visible from miles away. The best viewing points are within the Victoria Falls Rainforest, where walking trails lead to panoramic lookout spots. Thrill-seekers can try bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge, take a helicopter flight over the falls, or swim in the Devil’s Pool, a natural infinity pool at the edge of the waterfall.

Hwange National Park
Spanning over 14,600 square kilometers, Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s largest wildlife reserve and one of Africa’s best safari destinations. It is home to over 40,000 elephants, large prides of lions, giraffes, buffalos, and the elusive leopard. Visitors can embark on guided game drives, stay at luxury lodges overlooking waterholes, or enjoy a walking safari led by expert rangers. The park is also known for its diverse birdlife, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.

Great Zimbabwe Ruins
One of Africa’s most important archaeological sites, the Great Zimbabwe Ruins tell the story of an advanced civilization that flourished between the 11th and 15th centuries. Built by the Shona people, these massive stone structures—constructed without mortar—are a testament to the kingdom’s architectural mastery. The Hill Complex, believed to have been the king’s residence, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The Great Enclosure, with its towering stone walls, is the most iconic part of the ruins, while the Valley Ruins reveal remnants of a once-thriving city. Visitors can explore the site with a guide to uncover the secrets of this ancient kingdom.

Lake Kariba
For a more relaxed experience, Lake Kariba offers a unique blend of water-based safaris and leisure activities. As the largest man-made lake in the world by volume, it provides the perfect setting for fishing, sunset cruises, and houseboat vacations. Many visitors choose to stay on a luxury houseboat, drifting along the lake while spotting elephants, crocodiles, and hippos along the shores. The lake is also famous for tiger fishing, attracting anglers from around the world. At sunset, the sky turns a stunning blend of orange and pink, creating an unforgettable backdrop for an evening on the water.
